The city of Creve Coeur, translated from French as “heartbreak”, is named after a legend about an Indian princess who jumped into the local lake due to unrequited love for a French fur trapper. After she dove in, the lake changed shape to form a broken heart. In the past century, Creve Coeur grew from a small neighborhood of cabins to a larger residential area that boasts seven parks. With 95 acres of recreational areas, these parks offer walking trails to view many historic homes, tennis courts, and plenty of playgrounds for kids.
The Creve Coeur Memorial Park, located only a short 3 miles away from the city of Creve Coeur, is the largest park in the area. The focal point is Creve Coeur Lake, which has the claim to fame of being the biggest natural Missouri lake. In addition to renting a kayak on the water, you can bring a picnic here, shoot some arrows on the archery course and play the game of your choice on one of many well-maintained sports fields.
Golfers will love to tee off on the Crystal Springs Quarry Golf Course, with 18 holes situated conveniently in the middle of the Creve Coeur Park. To take a look at the rest of Creve Coeur, you can veer off from the paved path that encircles the lake and connect to the Katy Trail State Park. This Missouri park features a 240-mile-long rail trail that follows the route of the former Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. Joggers, hikers and bikers can be viewed on the Katy trail from dawn to dusk, all year round.
If you’re looking for more outdoor family activities, the Creve Coeur Park offers you a one-of-a-kind, exhilarating opportunity to “Go Ape!” The Go Ape Treetop Adventures is a zip-line canopy with five sections of obstacles in the air. With challenging crossings and Tarzan swings, you’ll climb higher and higher into the forest at this zip-line adventure site. After you enjoy the bird’s-eye view of Creve Coeur and descend from the treetops, give us a call at Midwest Eye Associates to schedule an eye exam with our outstanding optometrists! We’ll help keep your vision sharp and healthy – so you can continue enjoying all the nature and scenery of the Creve Coeur region!
